Oil & Gas
Swift TG Solutions has extensive experience in the Oil & Gas industry with services that make oil and gas production more efficient. Through detailed analysis, design, optimisation and know how, we deliver real world solutions that offer immediate return on investment. To accomplish this we can carry out full process system reviews, CFD and FEA simulations and supply hardware if required. Our main area of expertise is in the field of fluid separation encompassing both new and de-bottlenecking applications, topsides and subsea.
CFD is used in application to the process design of vessels (for example. separators and mass transfer columns) and other process equipment (for example, pumps, flow meters and valves). Aspects studied include flow and residence time verification, the presence of maldistribution due to the inlet pipe configuration, impact of slugging at the feed, the effect of motion and fluid sloshing, determination of mechanical loading on internal components and the pressure containing envelope, determination of frequencies for Flow Induced Vibration and prediction of efficiency.
FEA is used to ensure that the component has sufficient stiffness and strength for the applied loading. The loading can be directly applied from CFD simulation or approximated by other means.
Aerospace
Aerodynamics is one of the most common applications of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). It allows for steady state and transient aerodynamics of for example, aircraft, wings and rotors to be analysed with a high level of accuracy. Properties such as mass flow rates, pressure drops and fluid dynamic forces (for example lift, drag and pitching moments) can be calculated. This data can be used for design purposes and stress analysis.
In the design of any aircraft or flying machine weight reduction is a key design consideration. In order to reduce this as much as possible FEA is an ideal tool to use as it ensures that all of the complex load paths can be analysed appropriately. Also with the ability to optimise topology considering the use of modern day manufacturing methods, namely multi-axis and 3D printing, all un-necessary material can be stripped out of components
These methodologies have been used successfully in the design and testing of the brand new Swift Aircraft, together with offering support to Europa Aircraft's ongoing product development.
Renewables
Swift TG Solutions uses CFD, alongside other groundbreaking technologies, to provide innovative tools to meet energy challenges of the future. It allows engineers to model and predict fluid and air flow, giving them valuable insight into designs for wind turbines, water driven turbines and fuel cells. By using CFD in the development of these technologies, the design times are reduced, costs are kept to a minimum and the efficiency of the final product is improved.
Swift TG Solutions has extensive experience in evaluating the aerodynamic performance of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT) and has been instrumental in the development in an innovative VAWT turbine, the Windsurf. CFD testing for this project has included:
Analysis of turbine power output at different wind speeds
Optimising blade design
Prediction of noise of working turbine
Analysis of the rotor
Comparing to traditional methods, this CFD analysis has saved the project money and time, helping to improve the performance and optimal design of the turbine.
