CFD: Vertical Vessel - Transient Multiphase

The client wanted to understand how the inlet pipe routing would impact the design and operation of this scrubber vessel. A transient analysis was performed to model an incoming liquid surge and performance was deemed acceptable

The client wanted to understand the improvements that could be obtained in the purging of HC gas from compressor lube oil by use of Nitrogen gas and a larger heater. This led to the redesign of the existing internals.

The predicted performance with the new internals was much better due to the improved distribution of the purge gas.

Existing Design

The cylinder at the bottom of the vessel is a heater. In this simulation the impact of fluid heating on the vessel performance was also considered.

Proposed Design

Improved performance was predicted by the use of a circular distributor pipe to introduce the nitrogen into the vessel.
