CFD: Vertical Scrubber - Single Phase Scrubber
This vessel was causing excessive carryover to a downstream compressor. It contained a non standard inlet device for which there as no published information. Mist elimination was carried out by axial flow cyclones.
The root cause of the high carryover was reverse flow at the bottom of the inlet device. This prevented any liquid separated by the inlet device to drain out of the bottom. This in turn caused the axial cyclones to be overloaded with liquid resulting in high carryover.
Reconfigured internals were proposed to fix the problem. The proposed solution was also modelled to validate its performance - this was much improved with substantially less carryover.
